I'm still waiting for my 6 Week Total Body Makeover to arrive. I ordered it over a week ago, and had the option of paying $120 all at once or making credit card payments--but if I paid in payments it could take up to 3 weeks to ship. I picked the payment plan, so I will probably see my package around Christmas.
Aren't all of these diet kits just sitting in a warehouse somewhere? Don't they just print some address labels out and slap them on a box? Obviously, Michael Thurmond is not staffing his factory with ever-efficient Oompa Loompas, and I have to doubt the magical abilities of his diet.
(However, Oompa Loompas are working at QVC, because my Christmas in July purchases arrived almost instantly. Could someone from QVC please outsource a few O.L.'s to the 6 Week Makeover guy? Thank you.)
So, in an effort to do something proactive about my weight, I jumped on--um, I mean, I heaved myself on top of--my elliptical. It sits in my laundry room in the basement surrounded by dirty clothes and unfinished walls. I get to sweat and gasp for air while looking at a depressing pit. Joy!
I originally bought the elliptical to use in the family room. There is plenty of room in my cozy family room, and I could watch TV while working out. Hours could go by while I work out in a TV trance, right?!? Um, no. We drug the machine into the family room, set it up, and when I climbed on it--my head hit the drop ceiling. I never thought to measure the height of the machine. Stupid, stupid Jaci!
I had two options: take a ceiling tile out and shove my head in the hole while I work out (I was tempted) or move it to the laundry room. So it sits in the laundry room, covered in dust and cob webs. I hardly ever use it.
Today, I climbed on it and worked out for....10 minutes. After 2 minutes, I wanted to get off. After 5 minutes, I started sucking wind. By 10 minutes, I stopped and reasoned, "Oh, well, I gotta start somewhere," before gulping down a glass of water and trying not to puke. (I'm blaming the nausea on birth control pills.)
My blood sugar dropped (why do I eat Frosted Mini Wheats in the morning and expect that I'll be fine?) and had to gulp down lunch while shaking and half sick. Those types of episodes always wipe me out, and I fell asleep for 3 HOURS! What is wrong with me?!?!?
I am so out of shape it isn't even funny. I'm remembering the days when I could push myself to 45 minutes on the elliptical and feel great--what the heck happened? Tomorrow, I'll get on again and see if I can push myself for 15 minutes. Maybe by the end of the week I'll make it to a respectable 20? This is so sad.
Quick thoughts…

Oh god, I feel your pain! I used to be able to run (okay, jog) for so long and have no problems. Now, I try to go up the stairs at work (one set) and I'm dying like I ran a marathon.
Want a good laugh? Be around when I move all my crap into it's new home in a couple weeks... upstairs.
I can hardly carry my own weight up the stairs, imagine me with boxes and bags and crap, oh my!
Doesn't suck getting back in shape?!
I find myself getting more and more pissed that I was once very fit and then poof...staypuff marshmellow woman!
Celebrate the 10 minutes (at least you didn't do 0!)
Oh...I know that pain. Several years ago we joined the gym and the first time I got on the elliptical I made it 5 minutes. I was mortifed and about to die from lack of air. Fast forward to a few months later and an hour was nothing.
You can do it Jaci! Don't give up.
The eliptical kicks my butt!!
I was working out last night and there was this 70-80 year old man going to town on the eliptical, then the stationary bike, and then the arm bike thing!!! He put me to shame!
I felt the same lightheadedness before I cut out sugar from my diet. I also would be really tired after working out at first but now I'm wide awake for atleast an hour afterward.
As you get stronger, your stamina will build! Stick with it!!!
You have put more effort into working out in the last day than I have all year. You are to be commended! The only workout I get is chasing a toddler and a once daily walk around the block with my delightfully fat ass dogs.
I'll cheer you on if you'll cheer me on! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT! GO, GO, GO!
I have the 6 week body make-over. It's in a drawer, doing me absolutely no good. Darn it.
P.S., I tagged you for a meme, if you get a chance!
So totally not sad. When I started running this spring, running for 60 seconds was a HUGE challenge. Work your way up to it... there may actually be a "plan" somewhere online that gives you an idea of how much to do when to get into shape.... The Couch to 5K program has been great for me (although ummm summer has sort of messed up that schedule). Good luck with the treadmill.
And I'm with you -- I may have gone with popping my head through the hole. iPod?
I think incremental increases in time is the way to go. Back in April, during my Accountability April month, I wanted to get off my lazy butt and start exercising again. So one morning I went out and ran a mile or two. I thought my uterus was going to fall out. Literally. I was really worried that I had done some serious damage. Lesson: start out small. Get your body used to it and be happy at attaining the manageable goals. Slowly work up to longer and longer stints. I haven't run since because of what I did to myself.
Oh, I can't answer your poll because my reason for not leaving comments isn't up there. I don't mind jumping through hoops, or having dozens of commenters before me (I rarely read the comments above me). I don't comment if I don't have time. I'm trying to make time to comment on the blogs I read regularly though.
Good for you for starting back. I made myself get back into the gym this summer. The elliptical was my chosen method of torture. I started with 10 gasping minutes as well. I now do 30 minutes (that's as long as the Y will let me stay on at one time). I am dripping with sweat when I leave. That's a good thing, huh?
Honey take it slow and don't give up! I worked out like a fiend before I got pregnant (nearly 4 years ago now, gasp!) and just now I'm finally getting back in shape. Granted a free gym membership is part of my work benefits, but I'm taking advantage of it! I started off doing 10-15 minutes on the elliptical. If you try to add a couple of minutes a week, before you know it you'll be up to 30 minutes and you'll feel BETTER after a workout, not worse. Hang in there! It's not easy but you can do it!
Hey, 10 minutes is a start and it's a good start! Our elliptical sits in the living room...folded up...gathering dust. I give it dirty looks every now and then. I want to get out and get back into jogging, but certainly not in 105 degree freaking August heat! Have been thinking about doing yoga in the evenings to get my muscles used to doing something other that sitting in my work chair.
The eliptical is a hard work out! I have the 6 week make over too. In the basement. It wanted me to eat boiled chicken all the time. yuk. Oh well. Take it easy on the evil machine.
Just stick with it. You will be doing 45 minutes before you know it.
Hi Jaci,
Thanks for checking out my site and leaving a post. Glad to hear you're starting the 6WBMO. I started out w/ the 6 Day body makeover. And it gave me a taste of how difficult this plan is. On the 6DBMO I lost 10lbs. And have kept it off.
Be prepared, it's a tough change. There are things you'd need to adjust to. But, it's not a bad change. I like the healthier approach and for me I felt great on it. There were so many beneficial things for me I can't complain.
Also, when you get your package and join the forums, you'll see other people and their success stories. From someone at 246 going down to 150. It's inspiring and helpful.
Glad to meet you! and I'll look forward to your posts!!
